Important Information On CIRDC / Canine Flu

Please read and understand the following important information regarding your pet’s stay and CIRDC / Canine Flu.

Attention all Karnik On Black clients,

As a responsible and caring dog lodging facility, we wanted to address a serious issue that is affecting many dogs across the country: Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC), commonly referred to individually as either Bordetella or Canine Flu; whose symptoms are largely indistinguishable. CIRDC is a highly contagious virus that can cause severe respiratory illness in dogs, including coughing, sneezing, fever, lethargy, pneumonia, and even death.

While we do everything in our power to keep our facility clean and disinfected, we cannot completely eliminate the risk of CIRDC, or similar viruses. However, we want to assure you that we are taking preventative measures to fight this virus to keep your dogs safe and healthy.

The most crucial step in preventing the spread of CIRDC is to ensure that all dogs entering our facility are up-to-date on their vaccinations, including both Bordetella and K9 Influenza (H3N2/H3N8).

Given the close relationships that we keep with our local veterinary community, it has come to our attention that the canine flu vaccine is currently in short supply. Despite this, we still strongly encourage all pet owners to do their best to ensure their dogs are up-to-date on all necessary vaccinations where possible.

Unfortunately, we will have to turn away those dogs who have NEVER received both rounds of the canine flu vaccination.

Summary of proactive measures we’re taking to keep our pups safe:

  • Ensuring that all dogs are up-to-date on vaccinations, including Bordetella and K9 Influenza (H3N2/H3N8)
  • Using a veterinary-grade disinfectant that specifically targets canine diseases, such as CIRDC
  • Extreme circulation of air by way of two massive commercial HVAC systems, 20 operable windows, and a large “Big A** Fan”. This will introduce large volumes of fresh air throughout the facility to help prevent the spread of airborne diseases
  • Requiring our KOB team to frequently wash and sanitize their hands to prevent the spread of germs

We’ll be closely monitoring reported cases of either CIRDC or Canine Flu in our area, but we also urge you to get/stay informed about CIRDC and how you can help prevent its spread.
